It’s a New Year with countless opportunities at being a better person, with or without New Year resolutions.
First off, it’s important to understand that taking steps to be healthy no matter how small, goes a very long way in the end.
Here are a few tips to help you ease into the New Year, in no particular order.
Get to know your body
Believe it or not, sometimes we cause harm to our bodies without even knowing. Our bodies have been made to function in certain ways that are defined as normal and any deviation from this function will be termed as abnormal.
Our bodies do have a standard way of functioning, but then these functions are personalized. For example, there are people who have a slow metabolism and others that have an average or fast metabolism. Either way, metabolism takes place.
It is important to know how your body functions, what your body readily accepts or rejects, your allergies and markers. This way, a clear path to healthier wellbeing can be made.
Being conscious of everything
So maybe we cannot be conscious of absolutely everything going on around us but we can be conscious of what we have control over; what we eat, what we drink, what we think or meditate about. It’s time we took care of our physical and mental health too.
Take baby steps especially when you have made up your mind to make big changes. Say for example, you’d like to change your eating habits or lose weight.
Start by doing your own research, make your physical and mental notes and then see a specialist in that area; Dieticians, Nutritionists, Physiotherapists, Doctors and so on. Focus on the journey and not how long.
Build your support system
Some say life comes with stress and frustration. But even so, why not develop your own coping mechanism or build your support system?
Your mental health is as important as the air you breathe as it affects not just you but others around you.
Speak to a professional for more help on mental issues and also have people whom you are comfortable spending time with at all times.
Up your physical activity
There are tons of fun ways to up your physical activity alone or with friends.
Play music at the gym; add a little dance routine even if you don’t know how to dance, go for 15-30minutes walks while enjoying the evening breeze, pick up your feet when you walk, ride your bicycle to run errands if and when you can, avoid commercial motorcycles! Up your water intake and stay hydrated too.
To sum it all up, take your time to be a better you in all parts of life.
